Kūlia i ka Pūnāwai is a non-profit 501(c)2 organization dedicated to the perpetuation of hula, and professionalism in hula practice. Our members are kumu hula (master hula instructors) of halau hula (hula schools) that span Southern California from Ventura to Chula Vista. The organization fosters unity among the kumu hula, and a mentoring network.

The name "Kūlia i ka Pūnāwai" translates literally as "strive for the wellsprings". The term "Pūnāwai", wellsprings, acknowledges the role of kumu hula as cultural leaders in the Hawaiian community in California and challenges members to continue to deepen their own practice of the hula tradition. For this reason, we use the term "Pūnāwai" in conversation when referring to the organization.

Membership is by invitation only.
